In recognition of Black History Month and in conjunction with our current exhibition Black Lives Lived Here: London Family Photos, 1910s–1960s, Museum London is proud to present the documentary film Any Other Way: The Jackie Shane Story. Jackie Shane was a prominent, pioneering Black trans woman, soul singer, who played Toronto clubs in the 1960s, making appearances in London.
This evening features special guest queer rights advocate, community leader, and founder of The Rainbow Community of Canada, Naomi Nadea, who speaks to Shane’s fearlessness, courage, and talent in paving the way forward. Zahra McDoom, TD Curator of Collections, highlights Shane’s connection to our city. This story reflects the creativity, resilience, and enduring impact of Black performers and trailblazers who helped shape our nation’s cultural landscape.
